War Memorial Ceremony and Other Memorial Day Events

POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Executive William F.X. O’Neil and Veterans Services Director Adam Roche invite residents to participate in Dutchess County’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Monday, May 29th, at 11 a.m. The Dutchess County War Memorial is located at John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

The event will gather residents, veterans, and their families to honor the courageous service members who gave their lives in defense of our nation. The remembrance will include a wreath-laying ceremony, presentation of colors by the Poughkeepsie High School ROTC, and keynote remarks from U.S. Navy Seal Alex Othmer, founder and CEO of Guardian Revival, an organization chartered to revive and support the mental health and well-being of local veterans and first responders.

County Executive O’Neil said, “As veteran myself, I am well aware of the sacrifice that every service member makes protecting our country. Dutchess County will never forget our valiant heroes. Memorial Day is our opportunity to honor those brave men and women who have laid down their life for their fellow Americans. I invite all residents to attend the County’s Memorial Day ceremony and pay their respect to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to safeguard our liberty.”

Memorial Day is a national holiday which honors the men and women who lost their life while serving in the United States Armed Forces. They are remembered and honored for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

County Executive O’Neil and Director Roche encourage Dutchess County residents to celebrate local veterans by participating in one or more of the numerous Memorial Day events planned across the county.
