WAPPINGERS FALLS – The Hudson Valley Latino Scholarship Fund held an Awards Banquet at the Café con Leche Restaurant in Wappinger Falls, NY to honor its 2023 recipients. Three Latino high school seniors were selected based on their academic achievement and community service. Guest speaker, Mrs. Ernestina Chavez Carosella, Attorney with O’Connor Partners, PLLC congratulated the students and encouraged them to go forward with courage, enthusiasm, and be proud of their heritage.
The recipients received four certificates of achievement from each of the offices of NYS Senator Rob Rolison, Congressman Patrick K. Ryan, Congressman Michael V. Lawler, and William O’Neil, as well as a $1,000 scholarship award. The Hudson Valley Latino Scholarship Fund was created in 1999 by Edwin Sr. & Norma Ramirez and has awarded a total of 166 scholarships to date.
“Despite the challenges of the pandemic years when students were required to attend classes online, these students have excelled academically and have served their communities. Their accomplishments are quite impressive. Their perseverance, passion, and commitment will make them successful in college. We congratulate this year’s recipients and wish them much success as they pursue their educational goals at the college level”, said Norma Ramirez, Hudson Valley Latino Scholarship Fund Chairperson.
She continued, “We would like to thank our sponsor, Karen Kaplan Tax & Accounting Services, as well as the many people who contributed to the Hudson Valley Latino Scholarship Fund in memory of Edwin Ramirez, Sr.”
The 2023 Hudson Valley Latino Scholarship award recipients, listed in alphabetical order are: Daniel Diaz from Dover H.S., David Rodriguez from Washingtonville Senior HS and Marvin Juarez-Espinoza from Poughkeepsie HS.
