YONKERS – On July 12, Mayor Mike Spano and Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza presided over a ceremony that added two-dozen new Probationary Police Officers to the Yonkers Police Department, as well as elevated 11 members to positions of higher ranks and responsibilities. The event took place at the Grinton I. Will Library in the presence of dignitaries, family, and friends.
The new recruits are scheduled to enter the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Police Academy where they will attend Basic Recruit School; a 20-week program including courses in police science, law, physical fitness training, and more before entering Field Training and being assigned to their patrol commands. The many appointments and promotions included members entering roles of great responsibility within the Department, including Internal Affairs supervisors, Patrol Supervisors, and Detectives.
