City of Newburgh Seeks Members for the HRC

NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is seeking volunteers to serve on the Human Rights Commission (HRC). Individuals interested in volunteering must apply by August 18, 2023. Appointment to the HRC is by the City Council. Appointed individuals will fill the remaining portion of any unexpired term or a full term of three years.

The HRC fosters mutual respect and understanding among all racial, religious and nationality groups in the community and is responsible for receiving and addressing complaints of alleged discrimination because of age, sex, disability, marital status, race, creed, color or national origin and to submit an annual report to the City Council.

The HRC currently meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Heritage Center, 123 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY 12550. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend.

Paper copies of the application are available in the office of the City Clerk at 83 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550. Applicants may submit a letter of intent in lieu of an application. The letter of intent must contain answers to the questions found in the application available online or in the office of the City Clerk.

All applications not completed and submitted online through the City’s website and all letters of intent must be returned via regular mail or by hand delivery to the City of Newburgh Executive Office, attn: City Manager, 83 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550 or via e-mail to Boards@cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.
