Georgetown Tops Marist in Opener

GEORGETOWN, DC – The Marist football team was defeated in its season opener at Georgetown by a score of 49-7 in a non-league game on Saturday.

Joshua Stakely’s 42-yard touchdown run opened the scoring, as Georgetown took a 7-0 lead with 11:01 left in the first quarter.

Tristan Shannon’s three-yard touchdown run on third-and-goal plus Chase Gardi’s PAT tied the score at seven with exactly five minutes left in the first quarter. The drive covered 13 plays and 64 yards in 5:52.

Georgetown took the lead back on a two-yard touchdown run by Naieem Kearney with 1:50 let in the first quarter.

Tyler Knoop’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Grimes put Georgetown up 21-7 with 1:34 remaining in the second quarter. That remained the score at halftime.

The Hoyas added a pair of touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to account for the final margin.

After a bye week, Marist plays its home and Pioneer Football League openers on Saturday, Sept. 16 against Davidson. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
