NEWBURGH – Team Newburgh celebrated its 20th anniversary on Friday, October 6th with an old-school block party in the parking lot at the corner of Broadway and Grand Street.
Team Newburgh is an Anti Drug Coalition that works with the community to achieve step by strides, invigorating the City of Newburgh to strive towards being a healthy drug free community.
Established in 2003, Team Newburgh is comprised of local partners from children’s services agencies, non-profit organizations, schools, businesses, treatment facilities, community agencies, law enforcement and other community members.
Team Newburgh Coalition Coordinator Megan Robbins who organized the event said, “We are super excited to be here with the community and celebrate 20 years of doing substance abuse prevention work here in the City of Newburgh and bridge the gap between resources and city residence.”
Many of those community resource providers were in attendance, handing out helpful literature as well as useful items.
Dawn Wilkin, Director of Prevention Services has been with Team Newburgh for 15 years. Wilkin said of the anniversary and event, “It just feels good to be here and to thank the community for allowing us to serve them.” She concluded, “This is what it’s all about.”
City of Newburgh Councilman Anthony Grice has been a huge supporter of Team Newburgh and was also on hand. “I think I’ve been working with them for about 10 years now, so even before I was on council,” Grice recounted. He continued, “I’m super proud of, and to be supporter of this event. I’m glad for the turn out of this event.” Grice concluded, “I’m looking forward to another 20 years, 40 years, 60 years of Team Newburgh being here in the city of Newburgh.”
