Hawks Cross Country Team Takes Runner-up

KINGS PARK – The State University of New York at New Paltz cross country team(s) were on the road at the St. Joseph’s Invitational hosted by St. Joseph’s University – Long Island.

The women ran a muddy 5k and the men 8k at Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island.

The men came in second out of twenty-six teams and the women second out of twenty-two teams in the team competition.

Lillian Stephenson finished fifth overall to lead the Hawks with a time of 20:25.5. Marcella Candlin finished next for the Hawks in seventh place in a time of 20:34.5. Mackenzie Barcomb followed in nineteenth place with a time of 22:03.1. Allison English and Crystal Rustami finished in twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth place(s) places respectively to close out the scoring five for the Hawks. Jazmyne Daily-Simpson and Mikayla Cecora finished as the Hawks displacers in thirty-seventh and fortieth place(s) respectively and Alice Adamo finished in forty-eighth place.

Oliver Melara-Perez led the men’s side with a time of 27:17.4 to place third overall. Gavin Bowers followed in seventh place with a time of 28:27.5. Brandon Gardner and Joe Palazzolo followed in twenty-fifth and thirty-sixth place(s) with time(s) of 30:06.6 and 30:56.8 respectively. Palazzolo earned a new personal best in the 8k. Ryan Price rounded out the Hawks’ scoring five in sixty-first place.

Saturday’s meet marks the end of the Hawks regular season slate of meets and returns to action on Saturday October 28 for the SUNYAC Championships at Fortin Park in Oneonta, NY at 11:00 AM.
