Marist Soccer Powers Past Canisius In Away Match

BUFFALO – The Marist men’s soccer team defeated Canisius on the road 3-1, Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes have won back-to-back away matches and earned three points behind Richard Morel’s two goals.

Marist head football coach Viggiano said, “Mission accomplished on the road. We started slow, but after the first 20 minutes we found our footing. Canisius is better than their record and have taken points off teams at home so I was proud of the guys for doing the job. Can enjoy the bye this week and get rested for the playoff push now.”

Canisius scored the first goal of the match in the 24th minute.

The Red Foxes trailed 1-0 in the early minutes of the first half.

Five minutes later, in the 29th minute, Richard Morel netted a goal for the Red Foxes and equalized the match.

In the 34th minute of the match, the Red Foxes added to their lead with a goal from Torge Witteborg.

Witteborg scored his first goal of the season for the Red Foxes.

The Red Foxes held the lead into the half over Canisius 2-1.

The Red Foxes outshot the Golden Griffins 9-5 in the first half.

sLuca Bulfon stopped one shot in the first half.

The Red Foxes and Golden Griffins would play in a defensive second half, limiting each other from scoring opportunities.

In the 86th minute of the match, the Red Foxes added to their lead with a goal from Richard Morel.

Morel netted his second goal of the match, and fifth on the season.

The Red Foxes defeated Canisius 3-2 in the away match.
