Vassar Women’s Volleyball Sweeps SUNY Potsdam

POTSDAM – The Vassar College Women’s Volleyball team won its second match of the day on Saturday as the Brewers swept SUNY Potsdam 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 on the road. The Brewers improve to 14-9 overall while the Bears fall to 6-19 on the season

First Set
After the Bears took a 5-3 lead in the opening stages, Vassar scored 11 straight points as sophomore Rebecca Gutierrez buried two kills while first year Maura McAusland recorded an ace and a block.

Potsdam got within 18-13 on a kill from Lexi Price before the Brewers scored three straight points including a winner from first year Holland Kaplan.

The Bears cut the lead to six on a Megan Henry kill before winners from Kaplan and juniors Julia Hale and Frannie Anthony-Brumfield took Vassar to the first set victory.

Second Set
The Brewers held a 6-4 lead early as sophomore Molly Delahunty buried two winners and first year T Petro landed a service ace.

Sophia Layer’s ace along with a kill from Henry trimmed the lead down to 12-10 before Vassar pushed its lead up to six following two kills from Delahunty and another ace from Petro.

Vassar ran its lead up to 21-11 following two aces from Delahunty before the Bears battled back with an ace from Alyssa Adams and a winner from Kendall Jones.

The Brewers scored four of the final five points as Anthony-Brumfield and McAusland each notched two kills to take the second set.

Third Set
Potsdam held a slim 7-6 edge in the third set following a block from Marissa Wagoner and Jones as the set went back and forth.

The Brewers scored five consecutive points as McAusland and Hale each buried a winner to push its lead up to 15-9.

The lead grew to 20-11 following two aces from Petro and a kill from Kaplan before Emily Prest’s ace trimmed the lead down to 22-16.

Vassar earned the final three points of the set to complete the sweep.

For The Brewers
Kaplan led the squad in kills with 11 and added six digs while McAusland registered eight winners and six digs.

Hale and Delahunty each recorded seven kills as Delahunty landed two aces.

Anthony-Brumfield buried five kills while Gutierrez added four winners.

Sophomore Melia Voss handed out 20 assists and added eight digs while junior Molly Ardren tallied 14 assists.

Petro lifted a match-high 12 digs and also recorded a match-high four aces.

For The Bears
Henry tallied 10 kills and four digs along with Adams recording seven winners and eight digs.

Layer registered 16 assists and four digs while Madison Gilliland lifted a team-high 10 digs.
