The Mid-Hudson School Study Council awarded Ms. Valerie Morrison a 2023 Award for Excellence for Support Staff. The award includes education office professionals, paraprofessionals, custodial, cafeteria, and transportation personnel.
Ms. Morrison is a principal typist for the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, including clerical support for content area directors grades 6-12, districtwide Fine and Performing Arts, and Athletics. She coordinates budget activities, processes conference requests, field trips, and professional development for staff members. Support is also provided for all Newburgh Teacher center activities which includes professional development, communication, and grant applications. She further prepares Board committee agendas, information for Board review, and assists in coordinating community outreach and communication. Ms. Morrison has worked with different leadership throughout the years and adjusted to both modfications within her work assignments as well as personality and stylistic differences among her supervisors.
As noted by Dr. Kathleen Farrell, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for secondary students, “Ms. Morrison is supportive and proactive in managing the business of the division. She has a ready smile and ‘we can do’ attitude that is refreshing and assists in setting a welcoming and affirming environment. She is often the first level of contact at central office for parental concerns and works to set a positive tone for parents and community members.”
Ms. Morrison has served students in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District for more than 20 years.
Ms. Morrison was recognized at a Board of Education meeting this fall and was joined by her family to celebrate her acknowledgment. Ms. Morrison was also celebrated at a dinner and award ceremony for all Mid-Hudson School Student celebrants of in November.
