A Long Life Well Lived: Lottie Swann-Crawford

NEW CITY – Rockland County Human Rights Commissioner Chiimbwe offered the following statement on the passing of Lottie Swann-Crawford.

“Our hearts break over the passing of Lottie Swann-Crawford. Born and raised in Rockland, she was appointed Executive Director of the Rockland County Human Rights Commission in 1981.

“Long after that role, her commitment to human rights work remained unparalleled and will continue to provide a template of solutions to the challenges of our time.

“In my work as Human Rights Commissioner for Rockland County, I draw inspiration from people like her who made human rights work what it is today.

“I feel blessed to have had many opportunities to interact with Lottie on multiple occasions including celebrating her 100th birthday, honoring her at our County Human Rights Civil Rights and Hall of Fame reception for former inductees in June, and most recently visiting her during her illness.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to the family as they pass through this time. May her memory be a blessing.”
