POUGHKEEPSIE – City officials will host a free, two-day youth services seminar in early December, providing the public with information on the city’s youth grant program and assisting them in creating and sustaining a nonprofit organization.
Mayor Marc Nelson and Mayor-elect Yvonne Flowers will make introductory remarks at the seminar, being organized by Karen Williams, the city’s Youth Services Director.
The city launched the youth grant program in 2018 and awarded nearly $140,000 in funds distributed to sporting activities, the performing arts, summer camps, tech programs, workforce development and many other essential endeavors.
The program has grown significantly each year since then, and the city anticipates spending nearly $500,000 in 2024.
Williams said a number of important topics will be covered during the seminar, including the financial aspects of a running nonprofit organization as well as hiring and marketing practices.
The seminar will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 and Thursday Dec. 7 in the Common Council Chambers, third floor, City Hall.
