The Mount Falls in a Non-Conference Battle

NEW PALTZ – In a hard-fought non-conference matchup, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team faced off against the SUNY New Paltz Hawks at the Hawk Center.

Despite a valiant effort, the Knights couldn’t overcome the Hawks’ lead, resulting in a final score of Mount Saint Mary 58, SUNY New Paltz 76.

The game saw moments of intense competition, with Coach Dietz praising his team’s resilience. “We had really great moments of heart and never stopped battling. We were able to get the lead down to 7 and 10 a few times in the second half. I’m so proud of our fight, and while we have a lot to work on, we are moving in a positive direction,” commented Coach Dietz.

The Knights faced a tough challenge against the Hawks’ strong offensive presence.

Shannon Phelan led the Mount Saint Mary scoring with 14 points, supported by Sara Cashin with 10 points. Casey Love showcased her skills with 8 rebounds and 7 assists, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts.

Despite the loss, the Knights exhibited a commendable shooting performance, with a field goal percentage of 39.3%. The team demonstrated improvement throughout the game, particularly in the third quarter, shooting at an impressive 58.82%.

Looking ahead, Coach Dietz and the Knights remain determined to build on their positive strides and continue refining their game as they progress through the season.

Next up for the Knights is Purchase College, where they aim to bounce back and secure a victory.
