Marist Basketball Falls at Home to St. John’s, 50-40

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist women’s basketball team dropped a non-conference game against the St. John’s Red Storm by a score of 50-40 on Saturday night at McCann Arena.

QTR 1
Morgan Lee and Lexi Tarul buried back-to-back three-point attempts to get the scoring started for the Red Foxes as they took a 6-0 lead at the 7:38 mark.

The Red Storm responded with seven straight points to take a 7-6 lead with 4:18 to go in the first quarter.

Marist led 8-7 after the opening quarter. Both teams struggled to convert from the field as the Red Foxes were 2-for-12 and the Red Storm just 2-for-17.

QTR 2
Jackie Piddock hit a three-pointer to get things going for Marist in the second quarter.

St. John’s utilized a 6-0 run in less than a minute to retake the lead at 15-11 with 4:46 remaining in the first half.

The Red Storm took an 18-13 lead into the locker room at half. Turnovers were the big story in the first half for Marist as 15 mishaps hindered them from finding any real rhythm on the offensive end.

QTR 3
Zaria Shazer scored six straight points for the Red Foxes to tie the score at 19-19 at the 7:39 mark in the third.

A 10-0 run over 2:45 gave St. John’s a 33-23 lead with two minutes remaining in the quarter.

The Red Storm led 35-26 after three as they finished the quarter hitting five of their last seven shot attempts.

QTR 4
The two teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter with neither being able to create much separation.

Julia Corsentino made a three-pointer with 38 seconds left to get Marist within seven at 47-40.

St John’s closed out the game and won 50-40. The Red Foxes will host Drexel on Wednesday, December 7.
