Marist Comes Up Just Short at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, IN – The Marist men’s basketball team fell to Notre Dame by a score of 60-56 on Friday night at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

A 6-0 run, which included a three-pointer by Max Allen II, lifted Marist to a 10-4 lead at the 16:09 mark for the first half.

Notre Dame battled back to tie the game at 12, but layups by Jaden Daughtry and Jadin Collins on consecutive possessions lifted Marist to a 16-12 advantage at the 8:53 mark.

A three-pointer by Matt Zona gave Notre Dame its first lead with 7:17 left in the half.

Notre Dame extended its lead to four on two occasions, but Marist grabbed the lead back with a 7-0 run. The Red Foxes took a 25-24 lead to the locker room.

Notre Dame scored the first five points of the second half to take a 29-25 lead.

The Fighting Irish extended their lead to 10 with 10:45 left, but Marist countered with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to three with 7:36 to go.

Notre Dame’s lead reached a game high of 11 with 5:13 remaining,
Marist countered with a 12-3 run, and Noah Harris’ three brought the Red Foxes to within 56-54 with 1:36 remaining.

However, Marist had turnovers on its next two possessions, and did not score again until the final seconds.

Marist is 7-3 overall.

After a break for Christmas, Marist returns to action against Lehigh at McCann Arena on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
