Army Win Closes Out Non-Conference Play

WEST POINT – The Army West Point women’s basketball team (3-7) cruised to an 87-52 victory over the Five Towns College Sound (4-3) Saturday night. Three different Black Knights scored in double digits led by sophomore Reese Ericson who dropped 25 points, shooting 53% from three, and pulled down four boards. Freshman Fiona Hastick recorded her first double-double as she put up 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior captain Lauren Lithgow had 14 points making four threes and collecting three steals.

Army opened the game by scoring the first five points from Taylor Wilson and Trinity Hardy and held Five Towns scoreless until the five-minute mark. Kya Smith, Camryn Tade, and Reese Ericson would score the final six Army points as the first quarter ended knotted at 13.

Another unanswered five points started the second quarter as Army began to pull away. Reese Ericson led all scorers with eleven second-quarter points. The sophomore shot four of five from the field while making three of four from beyond the arc. Fiona Hastick pulled down five boards to help Army score six second-chance points. The Black Knights outscored Five Towns 29-9 to take a twenty-point lead heading into the break.

The Black Knights were strong on the glass to start the second half, grabbing 17 rebounds in the third quarter. Ericson’s three threes helped Army maintain their lead as they headed into the final frame leading 58-37.

Army exploded in the final ten minutes as seven different Black Knights scored. Senior captain Reagan Warren and Sophomore Linden Madison put up their first points of the season. Carlee Casteel’s seven fourth-quarter points were second on the team behind Lithgow who had eight. Hastick shot 100% from three as the Black Knights rolled to an 87-52 win.

Army will retake the court in the new year as their next match up will be on January 3rd at home to open up conference play against Lafayette at 6:00 PM.
