Vassar Women’s Track Scores a Second Place Finish

UTICA – The Vassar College Women’s Track and Field team earned a hard-fought second place finish at Utica’s Blue and Orange Invite on Saturday as the Brewers were led by first year Haley Schoenegge’s win in the 5000-meters along with sophomore Jahmilia Dennis taking home the triple jump victory.

5000 Meters
Schoenegge took home the first place finish as she crossed the finish line in 17:58.12 for an AARTFC mark followed by sophomore Anika Mueller-Hickler finishing second in an AARTFC time of 18:21.29.

Sophomore Nora Goldberg-Courtney recorded a fifth place finish in 19:46.44 while sophomore Lily Shimpach crossed the finish line in 21:03.49.

60M Hurdles
Dennis was victorious in her heat with a time of 9:67 and advanced to the finals along with senior Nora Jensen, who finished third in 9.83, and sophomore Freja Niklasson, who finished seventh with a time of 10.65.

Dennis finished second overall in the finals with a time of 9.56 followed by Jensen in third in 10.09 and Niklasson in fifth in 10.54.

60 Meters
Senior Ava Novak won her heat in a time of 8.16 to finish third overall along with junior Traci Francis winning a heat in 8:28 to finish fifth overall as both advance to the finals.

Sophomore Jamie Eu finished ninth in a time of 8:45 while Jensen was 13th in 8:57 and junior Lily Falkowski scored a top-20 finish with a time of 8.94.

In the finals, Novak crossed the line in third with a time of 8.17 followed right behind by Francis in fourth in 8.18.

Mile
First year Norah Reade finished second overall with a time of 5:24.33 to lead Vassar while senior Jordan Norman was 11th in 5:41.51 followed by first year Addie Nyhan finishing in 12th place in 5:42.67.

First year Acadia Helfand and junior Sophia Henderson both finished in the top-20 as Helfand crossed the line in 15th with a time of 5:50.36 and Henderson was 17th overall in 5:59.70.

400 Meters
Sophomore Maddie Busam finished 11th overall in 1:05.46 followed by first year Maya Carey in 12th with a time of 1:05.86 and sophomore Margaret McLaughlin in 13th in 1:06.69.

800 Meters
Borgstedt was the lone runner in the 800 meters as she placed 18th overall in 2:49.86.

200 Meters
Novak collected a fourth place finish with a strong time of 27.04 while Niklasson and senior Laura Wong finished back-to-back in 26th (30.27) and 27th (30.32), respectively.

Distance Medley
The quartet of junior Sophia Henderson, Norman, Helfand and Reade finished second in the distance medley with a time of 13:38.50.

4×400 Relay
The relay of Busam, McLaughlin, Carey and Wong collected a second place finish, recording a time of 4:27.45.

4×200 Relay
The group of Eu, Novak, Dennis and Jensen closed out the track events for Vassar with a second place finish, crossing the finish line in 1:51.11.

Pentathlon
Junior Faye Stevens scored a fourth place finish, finishing second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:37.32 and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.85) and the high jump at 1.43 meters.

First year Abigail Sasson recorded a 10th place finish while junior Soleil Yuong was 14th overall, finishing second in the shot put at 8.77 meters.

Triple Jump
Dennis continues her dominance in the triple jump as she collected the first place victory with a mark of 11.29
