Marist Wins Back-to-Back at Home Opener

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist softball team swept a doubleheader at home on Friday against Quinnipiac. The Red Foxes won game one 7-1 and won game two 2-0 in their first two games of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

Game One
Peyton Pusey led off the bottom of the first with a triple to right field, Miah McDonald drove her home with a single up the middle, and Haley Ahr followed with an RBI single to give the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Marist added another run to make the score 3-0 after Pusey stole home in the bottom of the second.

Ronni Howard hit a grand slam to left center bringing Isabella Manory, Alyssa Grupp, and Ahr home to extend the Red Foxes lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the third.

Quinnipiac got the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-1.

Kiley Myers went the distance as she improved to 8-2 on the season. Myers tossed a four-hitter, and allowed just one hit prior to the seventh inning. She struck out four, walked just one, and finished her outing in just 90 pitches.

Pusey and McDonald finished with two hits apiece.

Ahr reached safely in all four of her plate appearances with a single, two walks, and a hit by pitch.

Game Two
McDonald started Marist off with a solo home run in the bottom of the first to make the score 1-0.

Grupp singled down the right field line and McDonald reached home to push the Red Foxes lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third.

Anna Sidlowski pitched a shutout as she improved to 9-2 on the season.

Sidlowski earned her fourth shutout of the season holding the Bobcats to four hits. She walked no one, struck out two, and got through her outing in just 74 pitches. She recorded 16 ground ball outs.
