$393,050 in Youth Grants Awarded to Organizations

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Yvonne Flowers announced that $393,050 has been awarded to community organizations through the Youth Activities & Opportunities grant program.

In 2018, the city launched the initiative and awarded nearly $140,000 in funds distributed to sporting activities, the performing arts, summer camps, tech programs, workforce development and many other essential endeavors.

This year, the city is offering a maximum funding award of $15,000 for recipients.

“We know how important this fund has become to the community, and we see the benefits – through programs in buildings and on fields across our city,” said Mayor Yvonne Flowers.

“It’s also critically important for these organizations to maximize these dollars by forging partnerships with like-minded groups, leveraging the financial opportunities to ensure children are being served in the most effective and comprehensive way possible.”

In addition to providing funding, the city offers training sessions for applicants to answer questions and provides instruction on reporting requirements.

“These funding allocations are so important, and so is working with the organizations to provide them with vital information, such as the financial aspects of a running nonprofit organization, as well as hiring and marketing practices,” said Youth Services Director Karen Williams. “The city has been working to broaden our services, so it’s not merely distributing funds but also imparting information that can help these organizations.”
