St. Luke’s Cornwall Names 2024 Nurse of the Year

NEWBURGH – May marked a significant milestone for Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) as it named its first-ever Nurse of the Year. The prestigious award was bestowed upon Julianna Finnegan, RN, for her exemplary service in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at The Kaplan Family Center for Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Radiology on the Newburgh Campus.

Julianna embarked on her nursing journey at MSLC in 2012, quickly ascending to the role of Charge Nurse within her first two years. She later transitioned to become a Critical Care Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, where her dedication and clinical expertise were vital during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Julianna’s compassionate approach and collaborative spirit have made her a beacon of inspiration and mentorship to her colleagues.

Today, Julianna continues to shine as a key member of MSLC’s Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology team, contributing to the success of the newly renovated Kaplan Family Center for Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Radiology.

“MSLC nurses, designated as Magnet Nurses, uphold the highest standards of nursing excellence, consistently achieving outstanding clinical outcomes,” remarked Margaret Allers, MSLC Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer. “Julianna epitomizes the essence of nursing with her unwavering dedication, clinical prowess, and deep compassion for her patients, leaving an indelible mark on all she serves.”

The 2024 MSLC Nurse of the Year award was presented to Julianna at the hospital’s Nurses’ Night Out event, held at Hurricane Grill and Wings in Newburgh, NY. The event received generous support from DuBois Law Group, LLC, The Kaplan Family, and several other sponsors. MSLC President and CEO, Daniel Maughan, along with Margaret Allers, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, were delighted to surprise Julianna with this well-deserved recognition.

“I am immensely proud of Julianna for her remarkable achievements during her tenure at MSLC,” said Daniel Maughan, MSLC President and CEO. “While this is our inaugural Nurse of the Year award, I eagerly anticipate continuing this tradition to honor outstanding members of the MSLC team in the years to come.”
