Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week

NEW CITY – County Executive Ed Day & Probation Director Joseph DiCarlo are pleased to announce the County’s celebration and support of the annual Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week) which runs from July 21 to July 27. The campaign is a time to recognize the work that community corrections professionals provide to keep our communities safe. Community corrections professionals oversee persons convicted of a crime outside of jail or prison and are administered by agencies or courts with the legal authority to enforce sanctions. Community corrections include probation, correctional supervision within the community rather than jail or prison and parole, a period of conditional supervised release from prison, and pretrial services.

Rockland County Probation Department is focused on offender accountability, protecting the community, rehabilitating the offender, and preserving family life. County probation services include preparation of pre-sentence, pre-disposition and custody investigations; preparation of civil petitions for custody, visitation and family offenses; providing court ordered supervision to adult offenders and those juveniles identified as juvenile delinquents; and providing diversion services to children and families for the purpose of avoiding court involvement and/or the detention of the child.

Rockland County is fortunate to have a team of nearly 50 women and men in the Probation Department preforming these essential functions, driving significant, positive change in the county, by helping to provide the appropriate supervision and service to the right person at the right time.

The probation department plays an integral role intervening in the lives of victims, juveniles and adults placed under supervision. Through supervision, effective interventions, and programming they can address negative actions and build positive, productive behaviors with the goal of reducing recidivism.
