Senator Holds Annual “Skoufis On Your Street”

ORANGE COUNTY – Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) completed his annual “Skoufis On Your Street” tour of Orange County last week, his series of town hall-style events bringing together residents and local officials from around the district. With four stops over the course of two weeks, “Skoufis On Your Street” welcomed constituents with diverse backgrounds, priorities, and concerns to learn about Skoufis’ legislative work and relay the needs of their communities.

The town halls started in Middletown, then moved to Port Jervis, Warwick, and ended in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Similar questions were asked at multiple events, some even coming up at every meeting. There were many questions about local infrastructure needs and public safety, as well as the frustrating rollout of legalized cannabis, and the Senator’s efforts to support small businesses. Lively conversation often centered around environmental concerns, and discussion about local land use and managed long-term care, which gave Senator Skoufis a chance to discuss the state’s plan to streamline care management.

In addition to spirited question and answer periods, Senator Skoufis had the opportunity for many one-on-one discussions with constituents about everything from congestion pricing to the invasive gypsy moth. Members of his team were also on hand to address unique constituent concerns. The Senator was even challenged to a game of table tennis at the Port Jervis Recreation Center by a future table tennis Olympian.

“As your State Senator, it’s my duty to ensure local voices are represented in Albany, and it’s also my pleasure,” said Senator Skoufis. “It’s too easy for some lawmakers to lose sight of the issues that impact the day-to-day lives of people in the communities they represent. I’m enormously grateful to my constituents for the time they took out of their undoubtedly busy lives to hear about our work and to keep me abreast of the issues affecting their lives and the lives of their neighbors.”

Senator Skoufis closed out the 2024 legislative session in June with 88 of his sponsored bills passing the Senate, the highest of any lawmaker in the state. His town halls also offered a chance for constituents to learn about this broad legislative portfolio and his record as the most independent voice in the State Senate.
