RIVERDALE – The Marist men’s basketball team earned an 82-75 win at Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday.
First Half
There was no scoring in the first 3:02.
Manhattan jum-ped out to a 12-3 lead, which forced a Marist timeout at the 13:32 mark.
The Red Foxes came out of the timeout with an 8-0 spurt, which cut their deficit to one.
Elijah Lewis’ three-point play at the 7:32 mark gave Marist its first lead at 18-17. This was part of a 9-0 run in a span of 1:27.
After Manhattan took back the lead, Josh Pascarelli scored Marist’s final five points of the first half, and the Red Foxes took a 33-32 lead to the locker room. Pascarelli scored 16 in the first half.
Second Half
Jason Schofield’s layup off a give-and-go from Jaden Daughtry gave Marist a 48-41 lead with 15:39 to go. This field goal was the first of 10 straight Marist points scored by Schofield.
Lewis’ dunk gave Marist its largest lead to that point at nine, 63-54, with 9:38 remaining.
Marist took its first double-digit lead of the game on Daughtry’s three-pointer with 8:16 to go, which put the Red Foxes ahead 66-54.
Manhattan cut its deficit to five with 21 seconds to go, but dunks by Daughtry and Jackson Price sealed the victory for the Red Foxes.
After a week off for final exams, Marist returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Stony Brook.
