Mount Defeats Sarah Lawrence 76-40 on the Road

BRONXVILLE – Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball continued their stellar Skyline Conference play on the road at Sarah Lawrence.

The Knights played their last Skyline Conference game of 2024 before heading down to Washington D.C. to play in the Jamie Lynn Roberts Holiday Tournament. Mount Saint Mary has won their last two games by an average of 52 points and looked to continue their hot streak against Sarah Lawrence. Brianna Guglielmo started off the game with a defensive rebound on one end then a three-pointer on the other to get the Mount going. The Knights got off to a red-hot start, taking a 19-2 lead at one point in the first quarter. The Gryphon’s offense was stymied by a suffocating Mount Saint Mary defense. They forced 26 Sarah Lawrence turnovers, scoring more than a third of their points off turnovers with 28. The Mount led 24-8 entering the second, and the leading scorer on the afternoon Shannon Phelan knocked down one of her four shots from beyond the arc to start the quarter. Mount Saint Mary continued to play hard on the defensive end, holding the Gryphons to just five points in the quarter and 13 at the half!

Coming out of halftime, the Knights held a commanding 42-13 lead, as once again everyone contributed for Coach Marion Dietz. All 12 players scored and saw double-digit minutes on the hardwood, with the bench scoring 42 points. They went on a 12-3 run to open up the half, holding Sarah Lawrence to just one made basket in the first five minutes.

Lauren Petrie and Margaret Trinkaus were the two starters for the Knights to score in double figures, and both did so while shooting above 50%. Casey Love and Angelina Donato both dished out five dimes a piece, setting up their teammates all afternoon. Mount Saint Mary did lose the fourth quarter scoring battle 17-14, but it was already too late for Sarah Lawrence as the Knights took home this win 76-40.
