Scovens, Allenspach Shine in Army Matchup

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Army West Point men’s basketball fought valiantly, but ultimately stumbled on the road at George Washington, 75-60.

The Black Knights finished the game shooting 37 percent from the floor, ultimately struggling from the three-point line, finishing the night shooting 17 percent from behind the arch. Meanwhile, the Revs finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep.

Josh Scovens led the way from Army, scoring a team-high 20 points with six rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block. AJ Allenspach earned his second straight double-double, his fourth of the season. Allenspach finished the game with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Jalen Rucker rounded out the Black Knights with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

In the first four minutes, after a quick burst from the Revs, the Black Knights went on a 7-2 run to take control. The run was spearheaded by five points by Jalen Rucker.

Through the next 12 minutes in the first half, Army and George Washington exchanged baskets with each other, with Army taking a narrow 27-26 lead with under four minutes in the half.

To end the half, the Revs went on a 9-2 run to end the half taking a 35-29 into the locker room. The Black Knights finished the half shooting 38 percent from the field and outrebounding the Revs, 24-16.

The Black Knights came out of the locker room blazing. Army shot 50 percent from the floor and 33 percent from the three-point line. Army opened the half on a 14-6 run and took their first lead since the first half with 14:40 left in the second half. The lead was led by a personal 4-0 run and a big block by Josh Scovens to take the 43-41 lead.

The Revs went on a 13-2 run to swing the Black Knights lead into a 47-57 deficit with 8:37 left on the clock. Army tried to climb their way back, but the Revs went on an 11-0 run in two minutes to close the door on the Black Knights.
