POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist men’s basketball team pulled away late in the second half for a 61-51 victory over Fairfield at McCann Arena.
The Red Foxes earned their eighth straight victory as they ran their MAAC record to 5-0.
First Half
Marist took its first lead thanks to an early 7-0 run, which included a three-pointer from Josh Pascarelli. The Red Foxes led 8-4 at the 15:27 mark.
Fairfield took a 20-16 lead at the 7:40 mark on a three-pointer by Michael Rogan.
The Red Foxes held the Stags to three points in the final 4:43 of the half, and Pascarelli’s three-pointer in the closing seconds tied the game at 25.
Second Half
There was no scoring in the first 3:05 of the second half.
Fairfield led by three on five occasions in the first eight minutes, but Marist grabbed the lead with an 8-2 run punctuated by a Jaden Daughtry dunk at the 9:38 mark.
After Fairfield took the lead back on a three from Braden Sparks, Jackson Price’s layup at the 6:06 mark gave Marist the lead for good.
Starting with Price’s layup, Marist outscored Fairfield 15-4 to close the game. Elijah Lewis scored seven points in this span, while Price had six.
Marist scored the game’s final six points, and the final margin of 10 was the game’s largest.
