MIDDLETOWN – To kick off the New Year the SUNY Orange Colts played host to the 5-8 Colts of Middlesex. After suffering two losses to end of the year to Monroe University – Bronx and Raritan Valley Community College, SUNY Orange looked to start 2025 with a 1-0 record. This will be the second time that these two teams are facing off against each other this season, in the last outing Middlesex got the best of SUNY Orange winning 74-34 back in November of 2024.

To begin the game both teams had their troubles shooting the ball with a total of 14 points scored between the two teams in just the first quarter and after two quarters of play SUNY Orange found themselves trailing 21-13 to end the first half.

Going into the second half of the game the SUNY Orange Colt were trailing by just eight points Coach Brand will look to his athletes to push through and cut the lead down before the end of regulation. After a much needed halftime break the SUNY Orange Colts come out firing and were too much to keep up with as they managed to decrease their deficit to just two points with over a minute left in quarter number three. After the first thirty minutes of play quarter three comes to an end with SUNY Orange trailing by just four points managing to outscore Middlesex 31-25 in quarters two and three.

Approaching the last ten minutes of regulation SUNY Orange needs to play their best team basketball if they wanted to start 2025 undefeated. Throughout the entire game both teams faced problems handling the basketball with each team recording multiple turnovers.

Middlesex decided to take the first timeout of quarter four, with over five minutes left in regulation SUNY Orange trails by three points with a score of 43-40 as either team can come away with much needed win. Shortly after Middlesex takes their first timeout Coach Brand decided to take his first timeout and make any necessary changes and make his final push towards victory. Unfortunately after forty minutes of play the SUNY Orange Colts suffer their first loss of 2025 losing 50-43. Despite the loss the Colts managed to hold their opponent to just 50 points as that is the lowest amount of points the Colts have held their opponent to this season.
