NEWBURGH – Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball defeated Sarah Lawrence in dominant fashion.
Mount Saint Mary picked up right where they left off from their last match as Brianna Guglielmo, who has scored in double figures in six of her last seven games, got them on the board first. The Knights suffocated the Gryphons defensively, forcing 24 turnovers and scoring 28 points off of them. They opened up on a commanding 19-0 run before Sarah Lawrence was able to put one in the hoop. The Mount only allowed 3 points in the opening quarter as they led 23-3 after one. The Knight’s defense was stout all game, not allowing the Gyrphons to make more than two field goals in a quarter and preventing them from scoring double digits in one either. Another 23-point quarter from Mount Saint Mary saw them up 46-10 at the half as Ciarra Quinn controlled the offensive glass with her 16-point 6-offensive rebound performance.
Though the Knights usually run an 11-woman rotation, everyone saw numerous minutes for Coach Marion Dietz, and all 11 active players scored. Four players scored in double-digits and the top two scorers, Ciarra Quinn and Erin Lofaro, came off the bench. The third quarter would be their lowest scoring of the game, but the Mount controlled the pace of play. Looking to get nothing but good shots, Mount Saint Mary shot above 50% from the field and was highly efficient at the free throw line shooting 81.8%. Quinn and Lofaro stole the show at the end of the third, going on a combined 10-0 run as the Knights led Sarah Lawrence 64-15. The Lofaro sisters’ connection was really on point today as Elizabeth Lofaro assisted on five of her sister Erin’s seven made shots in this game. The fourth quarter was once again all Mount Saint Mary as Ciarra Quinn knocked down her third and fourth three-pointers of the game. The Knights would end up winning this one over the Gryphons 84-22.
