NEW YORK – The Mount Saint Mary College men’s basketball team closed out their season with a victory over Yeshiva.
Mount Saint Mary looked to end their season on a high note in their regular season finale with Yeshiva. The Knights have already been eliminated from playoff contention, but they did not play like they were tonight. JP Egan got the Mount started with a three-pointer off a Ryan Graham rebound. The Knights jumped out to a 9-2 start, including 4 points from Connor Cyran, the games leading scorer with 24. Mount Saint Mary was raining threes in the first half as Brenden Graham got in the action to put them up 15-4. Yeshiva started to close in on the scoreboard, but Connor Cyran had something to say about that, putting the Knights back up double digits. With just under 8 minutes in the half, Ryan Graham banged back-to-back threes extending their lead as they led the Maccabees 33-17. The Mount shot 43.75% from beyond the arc in the first half and had quick hands on defense, forcing 25 Yeshiva turnovers this game. Mount Saint Mary would take a 41-26 lead entering the half, but could not take their foot off the gas with a dangerous team like Yeshiva.
In his last game as a Knight, Ben Toussaint would score a career-high 11 points, as he got the team started with a good jumper in the second half. Senior Connor Cyran proved he had just enough left in the tank for a fast break jam to put the Mount up 47-32. He would score 8 points in a row for the Knights before Yeshiva would go on a run to cut their deficit to single digits. AJ Piedra would end the Mount Saint Mary scoring drought, but the Maccabees continued to chip away at their lead. With just under 9 minutes left in regulation, Yeshiva was down just 59-54 before Connor Cyran would respond with a huge three, crushing any momentum the Maccabees had. Yeshiva hung around, but the Knights were determined and rolling on all cylinders. Ben Toussaint hit multiple clutch free throws to keep a steady lead for the Mount. Ryan Graham continued to put pressure on the Maccabees’ defenders, forcing them to foul him with the Knights in the bonus. The Knights would ultimately defeat Yeshiva 78-69 giving Connor Cyran, Ryan Graham, Ben Toussaint, and AJ Piedra a win in their final career game with Mount Saint Mary.
