New Windsor resident and Coast Guard Auxiliary member Matt Fascaldi has announced his candidacy for Orange County Legislature in District 15, offering residents a uniquely experienced and dedicated public servant. With a life-long passion for public service, Matt is eager to address the real needs of his neighbors by representing them in the legislature.
Matt was raised in the Hudson Valley in a working-class family; his father, a third-generation plumber, and his mother, a special education advocate. He attended The Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson and spent his teenage years in Orange County. Matt caught the public service bug early, as he was inducted into the National Honor Society to pursue community service opportunities in high school, and earned his Eagle Scout for building ADA-accessible garden beds and benches for the Catholic Community Services of Rockland.
Working his way through college, Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communications from Baruch College. He spent this time volunteering at local animal shelters and as a volunteer firefighter. After graduating, Matt joined the Coast Guard to serve his country, but his military career was unfortunately cut short when medical complications arose from a previous car accident. Upon returning to civilian life, he quickly sought out other ways to continue giving back to his community.
In 2022, Matt joined the Office of Senator James Skoufis as a Constituent Services Specialist, helping various municipal leaders and hundreds of residents across Orange County solve problems. From out-of-control utility bills to issues with the DMV to helping a family prevent foreclosure on their home, Matt quickly established himself as a firm yet compassionate advocate for Orange County residents and was promoted to Director of Constituent Services in November 2023.
Because of a continuing love and dedication to service, Matt remains a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to help support missions of active duty members.
“After witnessing how county-level decisions have negatively impacted some of our most vulnerable populations – seniors, disabled veterans, working families – I felt the call to serve my community in a more hands-on way,” said Fascaldi. “I want to bring this district the active representation it has long deserved. I have spent much of my life dedicated to my community and am uniquely positioned to understand the needs of my neighbors. This community deserves county leadership that’s operating in its best interests. ”
Currently, Matt lives in New Windsor with his wife, Debby, and their dog, Cooper. In his free time, he loves to hike around Orange County and participate in historical reenactments. He spends many weekends volunteering with various historical sites and museums to raise money for historical preservation.
