Army Drops Series Finale

WEST POINT – Army West Point Baseball dropped Monday’s series finale to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 8-6.

The Black Knights still took the three-game series at Doubleday Field, winning both games Sunday.

During Monday’s game, Catcher Jack Quinlan was named Patriot League Player of the Week.

Lehigh scored four unanswered runs in the seventh through the ninth innings, coming back from two runs down. A pair of solo home runs tied the game in the seventh before a two-run homer gave the Mountain Hawks the lead for good in the final inning.

Army answered a two-run top of the first for Lehigh with a Quinlan RBI single in the bottom of the inning, before Thomas Schreck scored on a wild pitch an inning later to tie the game.

Chris Barr logged an RBI double in the fourth to give Army a lead before Lehigh responded with two runs in the fifth to go ahead 4-3.

The Black Knights retook the lead in the sixth on a William Parker RBI double and a two-run pinch-hit single from John McKillop.

Robbie Penswick took the decision out of the bullpen for Army, striking out five over 2.2 innings.

Trey Ates gave 1.2 innings in relief, after starting pitcher Bryce Brownlee went 4.2 frames.
