Marine Sonic Technology Will Help Law Enforcement

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office recently took possession of the Marine Sonic ARC Explorer MK II towed side scan sonar unit acquired through the support of the Ulster County Legislature and Executive’s Office. This latest piece in Marine Sonic technology is tailored for search, survey, and recovery needs. Featuring Adaptive CHIRP technology, it delivers exceptional imaging quality. Capable of deployment at depths reaching 300 meters, the MK II is a comprehensive system. On June 11th & 12th, the Sheriff’s Office conducted a two-day training session for neighboring agencies, in collaboration with their North Hudson AMSC partners.

The first day was dedicated to classroom instruction and the second day emphasized practical application and hands-on deployment. The MK II will be employed for evidence detection and recovery as well as search and rescue operations.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Orange, Dutchess, Columbia and Greene County Sheriff’s Offices, Department of Environmental Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police, New York State Police, United States Coast Guard and Ulster Hose Fire Department for their participation in the training.

The MK II will be readily available to assist all surrounding partners, should the need arise.
