“Skoufis On Your Street” Town Halls Visit Neighbors

Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) completed his annual “Skoufis On Your Street” tour of Orange County last week, the series of town hall-style events that bring together residents from around the district. With four stops over the course of one week, “Skoufis On Your Street” welcomed constituents with diverse backgrounds, priorities, and concerns to learn about Skoufis’ legislative work and relay the needs of their communities.

The town halls started in Cornwall-on-Hudson, then moved to Middletown, Port Jervis, and Chester. There were a broad range of questions at each event, on proposed industrial development, education funding, needed road repair, what federal cuts will mean for New Yorkers, and even a question about the Senator’s favorite movie (Forrest Gump). In addition to questions, Senator Skoufis had the opportunity for one-on-one discussions with constituents about local or personal concerns: senior housing, historic preservation, and public health policy.

“As your State Senator, it’s my duty to make sure all local voices are represented in Albany, and it’s also my pleasure to connect with neighbors across our county,” said Senator Skoufis. “It can be easy for lawmakers to lose sight of the issues that impact the day-to-day lives of people in the communities they represent. I’m enormously grateful to my constituents for the time they took out of their undoubtedly busy days to hear about our work and to keep me abreast of the issues affecting their lives and the lives of their neighbors.”

Senator Skoufis closed out the 2025 legislative session in June with 91 of his sponsored bills passing the Senate, the highest of any lawmaker in the state. His town halls also offered a chance for constituents to learn about this broad legislative portfolio and his record as the most independent voice in the State Senate: Skoufis voted independently from his party 214 times this year.

The Senator and his team are grateful to this year’s event hosts: 2 Alices Coffee Lounge in Cornwall-on-Hudson, Tapped in Middletown, the Port Jervis Free Library, and the Cancun Inn in Chester.
