WEST POINT – Army West Point women’s soccer earned their first service academy victory of the year in a 2-1 victory over the Air Force Falcons (0-3-0) on Thursday evening. For Army (2-1-0), sophomore Karalyn Dail was sparkling in the net for the Black Knights making a career-high nine saves.
In the win, junior Sabrina Rogers earned first goal of the season and the second of her career. Senior Brigid Duffy netted the game-winner in the 56th minute for her second goal in as many games.
The Falcons came out fast in the game with two shots on sophomore Karalyn Dail but they proved to be irrelevant as they were saved.
In the 22nd minute, senior Bella Cooke kept in a ball and found freshman Megan Youngberg along the right side. Youngberg delivered a beautiful cross that connected with junior Sabrina Rogers on the backside of the net to open the scoring at Malek Stadium for the season.
Air Force continued to drive up field and take shots but all four that made it to the net were stopped in the first half by Dail.
In the 56th minute, Brigid Duffy netted her second of the year, after stealing the ball away from two Air Force defenders. Duffy took a shot from the outside of the box, scoring right under the bar to double the Army lead to 2-0.
The Falcons would get one back in the 88th minute, but it proved to be too little to late.
