Funds Will Help Support Veterans Programming

BEDFORD CORNERS – Westchester County Legislator Erika L. Pierce (D- Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers) delivered $6,592 in County funding for Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship (Bedford Corners, New York) to bolster a restorative program for veterans.

Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship, founded in 2014, empowers individuals with a broad range of needs by providing horse-assisted therapy services in an inclusive and welcoming environment. For 2025, the Westchester County Board of Legislators is proud to support Endeavor’s no-cost virtual veterans program for those unable to travel to the facility.

Veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress benefit from learning horse communication and herd dynamics, how horses manage change and stress, and grooming and daily routines under expert guidance.

Legislator Erika Pierce said, “Our veterans give their all for our country and far too many struggle in the years following their service. Endeavor provides equine therapy, at no charge, to hundreds of our veterans annually, making real differences in their lives. I have been lucky enough to witness some of those interactions, and the impacts on program participants are nothing short of magical. Our female veterans are a particularly underserved group, and so I am thrilled to be able to help with funding for programs specific to their needs. We are so very lucky to have Endeavor in our community.”

Emily Bushnell, Executive Director and Founder of Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship, said, “We’re deeply grateful to Westchester County for this funding, which enables us to provide virtual services to female veterans. This support helps us reach more women who have served—offering a safe, empowering space to build confidence, reduce stress, and foster meaningful connection. We’re proud to continue offering this horsemanship programming at no cost to the veterans who have given so much.”

Laurie Ciavardini, LCSWR Clinical Director and Director of the Veteran Program, said, “We’re incredibly thankful to the Westchester County Board of Legislators for making our veteran program possible. Their ongoing support allows us to offer meaningful services that empower veterans to grow, heal, and build a lasting community.”
