Advisory Board Releases Community Needs Study

WHITE PLAINS – For the first time in more than two decades, Westchester County has completed a comprehensive study of its Hispanic community, conducted in partnership with Pace University and the County’s Hispanic Advisory Board. The study highlights critical priorities and provides a roadmap for how the County and its partners can better serve this growing population.

The findings highlight a strong community that is deeply engaged in Westchester’s economy and culture, while also underscoring pressing needs in areas such as affordable housing, healthcare access, employment, civic participation and social services. These results come at a time when the Hispanic population continues to expand, representing one of the fastest-growing communities in Westchester.

County Executive Ken Jenkins said, “These findings highlight both the challenges facing the Hispanic community and the opportunities we have as a County to respond. My administration is committed to working closely with the Hispanic Advisory Board and our partners to explore these recommendations and ensure Westchester continues to be a place where every family can thrive.”

Hispanic Advisory Board Chair Dr. Carmen Martínez-López said, “This research has been a long time coming. More than 20 years have passed since the last assessment, during which time the Hispanic community has grown in size, strength and economic significance. We needed this study to ensure our voices and experiences are fully understood. Housing, health and civic engagement are essential issues for our families, and this report provides the foundation for action.”

Pace University’s Interim Associate Provost Rebecca Tekula said, “Through this study, we were able to bring detailed research together with community engagement to create a resource that is both meaningful and actionable. The results provide a clear picture of where attention is most needed and how public and private organizations can respond.”

The Hispanic Advisory Board and the County Executive will continue to work together to review the findings, share them with community partners, and explore opportunities for collaboration. While the County faces a challenging budget year, this study provides a foundation for dialogue and long-term planning that acknowledges the critical role the Hispanic community plays in Westchester’s future.
