Bard Women’s Soccer Battled at Clarkson

By Pearllan Cipriano

The Bard College women’s soccer team traveled to the northern countries and fought hard against Clarkson on Saturday morning.

Bard and Clarkson were scoreless after 45 minutes of play. The Golden Knights had eight shots, but McKenna Reeves had some tremendous saves, tallying up six saves. Although the Raptors weren’t able to get a shot on goal, Bard had some breakthrough chances on the transition of defense to offense, where they could have taken a shot, including a through pass by Alexandria Loner to Mahlia Slaiby who had a near shot on goal but was prevented by a Clarkson defender.

In the second half, Clarkson took an early lead and added an insurance run seven minutes afterwards. The Golden Knights were able to add one more goal midway through the second half to make it 3-0. With 10 minutes left to play, Carina Cooke had a breakaway and used her speed to get past her defender and take a shot on goal, but was saved by CU’s goalkeeper. Isabella Vinces found the rebound save and took a shot outside the box, but went wide left.

At the 83:07 mark, Bard had a free kick. Goldie Siff sent the ball inside the box, as the Raptors scrambled. Thayden Hamilton-Howard, who was playing on the field, found the foot of Vinces on the right side. Vinces sent the ball on the top left of the goal to score her first collegiate goal. It is the Raptors’ first Liberty League goal this season.

Bard will be back at home this Saturday when they take on Skidmore at 1 p.m. for their Morgan’s Message theme game.
