Barrett Secures $110,000 for the Mid-Hudson Library System

Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-Dutchess/Columbia) announced that she had secured $110,000 to support libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System. The funds will be distributed amongst the 16 Mid-Hudson Library affiliates in the 106th Assembly District.

“As a longtime advocate for our local libraries, I proudly secured this funding to ensure the libraries across my Assembly District can continue offering the important services, resources and programming they provide for so many of us and our neighbors,” said Assemblymember Didi Barrett. “Our local libraries are a vital part of our communities, and with threatened federal funding cuts, it’s essential they have the support they need.

Libraries aren’t just a place for books – they’re a space for people to access the internet, for seniors to apply for Social Security, and a place where people can turn to when they need a hand up. If you don’t already have one, it’s time to get a library card!”

“Libraries are essential to the communities they serve,” said Rebekkah Smith Aldrich, Executive Director of the Mid-Hudson Library System. “From bridging the digital divide to being authentic partners to create communities that thrive, libraries are on the frontlines of some of the most pressing issues of the day. Thank you to Assemblymember Didi Barrett for recognizing that investing in our libraries is an investment in every constituent in her district.”

“The Claverack Free Library has become a community hub, from offering classes to senior citizens to Baby and Me classes for our youngest patrons,” said Claverack Free Library Director Thea Schoep. “We’re helping people access the internet, apply for jobs and fulfill historical curiosity and cultural needs. Thank you to Assemblymember Didi Barrett for her support of libraries and the people of her district.”

Hudson Area Library Director Emily Chameides said, “With the support of Assemblymember Didi Barrett, this funding will help us expand our programs and services, supporting lifelong learning and giving our community greater access to the resources and support that they need to thrive.”
