Mount Swimming Beats Out Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s swim team came out on top with a 92-84 win over Brooklyn College in their first meet of the season.

The Knights had 8 first-place finishes on the women’s side, with senior Cayla Nicholas leading the way in three events. Nicholas placed first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.02 seconds, 100 Yard Freestyle at 57.90 seconds, and the 100 Yard Breaststroke, taking home 27 points for the Knights. Senior captain Stefanie Sommer also took home 27 points and three first-place finishes in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:15.90, 500 Yard Freestyle, and 1000 Yard Freestyle.

“We came in short-handed and were still able to execute and win. Our girls prepared all preseason for this moment, and it really showed,” added Head Coach Chris Mance.

Angelina Mainiero and Ruvarashe Gondo were also able to place first in their respective events. Mainero took home 9 points for the Knights in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:22.21, and Gondo took home first in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:48.67

The Mount was unable to fill a team for either of the relays, but was still able to beat Brooklyn College 92-84.
