Venning Appoints Paul Pullar As New Fire Chief

NEWBURGH – Newburgh City Manager Todd Venning Friday announced his appointment of Assistant Chief Paul Pullar to serve as Fire Chief for the City of Newburgh. Chief Pullar is a highly accomplished twenty-one-year veteran member of the City of Newburgh Fire Department, rising through the ranks since beginning his career in the professional fire service with CNFD in 2004. Chief Pullar took command of the Fire Department on Friday, October 24th.

City Manager Todd Venning said, “Chief Paul Pullar is a deeply respected leader who rose through the ranks and dedicated his entire career in the professional fire service to protecting Newburgh’s residents. Chief Pullar has built an impeccable reputation as a steady presence and exceptional mentor to our firefighters. City residents should take great pride that their Fire Department has developed an exceptional hometown leader to become their Fire Chief.”

Chief Pullar began his twenty-one-year career with the City of Newburgh Fire Department in 2004 as a firefighter, following an early career as a scientist at EnviroTest Laboratories in the City of Newburgh. Chief Pullar distinguished himself early on and quickly rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant in 2010 before being promoted to Captain in 2014, and Assistant Chief in 2019. Chief Pullar has achieved National Certification as a Firefighter, Fire Officer, and Fire Investigator. Chief Pullar was born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh and attended Newburgh schools, graduating from NFA in 1986. Chief Pullar graduated from Franklin Pierce College in 1990 with a BA in Biology and minor in Chemistry. He has been married to his wife Sherri for thirty-four years, and is the proud father of his daughter, Jessica.
