Mount Men Drop Match With Pratt Institute

NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College men’s basketball team suffered its first defeat of the year to the Pratt Institute.

Mount Saint Mary got off to a hot start, making three pointers on their first two possessions from Matthew Walsh and Brenden Graham. Pratt took the lead from the Knights, but Daniel Herzner would knock down a three to tie the game at 13-13. After a 7-0 run from the Cannoneers, Justin Rivera hit two straight jumpers to get the Mount right back in it. The Knights struggled to defend the corner three, allowing Pratt to go 9-19 from beyond the arc. JP Egan would take the lead for Mount Saint Mary at the 6:25 mark, but from here, the Knights were outscored 15-6 as they trailed 39-29 after the first half.

To begin the second half, Mount Saint Mary hung around, with JP Egan scoring 6 quick points. Matt Monaco also provided a spark off the bench with a career-high 8 points and 5 rebounds. A 9-0 run, capped off by a Rob Geremino three, put the Knights right back into the game as they only trailed 57-51. The Cannoneers were able to penetrate the Mount’s 3-2 zone, allowing them to get easy looks in the paint and build back up their lead. Pratt led by as much as 20 points in the second half, as they were able to pull out an 81-63 win over Mount Saint Mary.
