Second-Half Eruption Lifts Marist Over Davidson

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist University football team earned a 37-10 victory over Davidson in a Pioneer Football League game at Tenney Stadium on Saturday.

The Red Foxes broke open a 10-10 game at halftime with 27 unanswered points in the second half to win their second straight.

After a scoreless first quarter, Samer Layous’ 36-yard field goal gave Marist a 3-0 lead at the 10:07 mark of the first quarter.

Davidson took a 7-3 lead on Coulter Cleland’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Ivan Hoyt with 2:30 left in the second quarter.

Marst re-claimed the lead just 1:21 later on a seven-yard touchdown run by Carter James.

This was set up by a 56-yard pass from Sonny Mannino to Connor Hulstein on the previous play.

On the final play of the first half, Christos Tzoumakas’ 24-yard field goal tied the score at 10.

Marist then erupted for a 20-point third quarter.

Mannino’s one-yard touchdown run gave the Red Foxes a 17-10 lead on their first drive of the second half, which covered 75 yards in 13 plays in 6:48.

Mannino’s five-yard touchdown pass to Hulstein put Marist up 24-10 with 3:45 left in the third.

On the final play of the quarter, James ran for a 16-yard touchdown. This was set up by a 63-yard pass from Mannino to Lance Martinez on the previous play.

Ja’Cyion Cox ran for a 14-yard touchdown with 4:21 to play in the game.

Marist improved to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in PFL play.

Marist closes out the 2025 season on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Presbyterian.
