PHS Celebrates Students With Perfect Attendance

POUGHKEEPSIE – Nearly 100 Poughkeepsie High School students had perfect attendance in November, showing up on time each day for school.

That, Dr. Phee Simpson decided, was something to celebrate. The principal recently treated those 96 students to an array of cookies and hot chocolate with a variety of creamers.
The students were invited to visit the station during their lunch periods, ensuring each of them could receive their reward without missing class time. The tasty incentive is one of several ways the school has been encouraging students to arrive to school on time each day, especially during the colder holiday months in which attendance historically has been difficult for schools across the country.

This week, the final week before the winter recess, Poughkeepsie High School will join others in the district in holding a “Spirit Week,” with themed days encouraging students to dress in a holiday spirit. The school also hosted a triple feature of holiday movies as a PBIS incentive and, this Thursday, the school is hosting its second-annual winter volleyball knockout tournament in which students will take on staff.
