Marist Drops Road Game at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT – The Marist University men’s basketball team fell to Quinnipiac by a score of 64-58 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Monday.

Neither team led by more than two in the first five minutes, but a 5-0 spurt staked Quinnipiac to a 9-6 lead at the 14:41 mark.

A 6-0 Quinnipiac run lifted the Bobcats’ advantage to 17-10 with 11:25 left in the first half.
Marist re-claimed the lead with a layup by Tarik Watson at the 5:33 mark, which capped an 11-3 Marist run.

Quinnipiac then scored the game’s next eight points to go up seven, but Jason Schofield scored four in a row to get Marist within three.

Quinnipiac held a 30-25 lead at halftime.

Marist took the lead by scoring the first nine points of the second half. Tarik Watson’s three-point play with 18:22 left put Marist back in front.

There were four lead changes and two ties in the first 5:34 of the second half.

An acrobatic layup by Jadin Collins-Roberts tied the score with 9:58 to go, but Quinnipiac then scored the next six.

The Bobcats built their lead to nine as Marist was held without a field goal for 5:23.

Justin Menard’s three brought Marist to within three at 61-58 with 59.4 seconds to go, but Quinnipiac’s Asim Jones scored the games’ final three points with a layup and free throw.

Marist plays the second of its back-to-back road games on Friday, Jan. 2 at Saint Peter’s.
