Jacobson Hosts Successful Gun Buyback Event

NEWBURGH – Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) hosted a successful gun buyback event last weekend in partnership with the City of Newburgh Police Department.
The event, which took place at the Newburgh Activity Center, resulted in the collection of 83 firearms, including 8 assault rifles, 28 handguns, and 47 rifles and shotguns.

“Gun buybacks are one way I can partner with law enforcement to get guns off the streets and make our communities safer,” Jacobson said. “Newburgh and the surrounding area will be safer because these weapons will not end up in the wrong hands.”

As an amnesty program, guns are exchanged for gift cards with no questions asked and no identification required.

“Thank you to Police Chief Brandon Rola and the officers who ran this very successful program,” Jacobson said.

Once the weapons are logged by the police, they are destroyed.

Jacobson will conduct a similar gun buyback in the City of Poughkeepsie later this year.
