Habitat Dedicates House for Mazareigo Family

SAUGERTIES – Ulster County Habitat for Humanity celebrated the dedication of a new home at 39 Bromley Street, welcoming the Mazareigo family (Ruben, Deisy, Katherine, and Sofia) as the newest homeowners in the community.

The dedication ceremony marked the culmination of months of construction and the family’s partnership with Ulster County Habitat through sweat equity hours, homebuyer education, and collaboration with volunteers who helped build their home. This is the ninth home Ulster Habitat has built in Glasco Ponds in Saugerties.

“This is what every hammer swing, every donation, and every community partnership builds toward,” said Christine Brady LaValle, CEO of Ulster County Habitat for Humanity. “Watching the Mazareigo family receive their keys represents the realization of their hard work and our community’s commitment to creating pathways to affordable homeownership in Ulster County.”

The Mazareigo family worked alongside volunteers on the construction of their home, completing required sweat equity hours and participating in comprehensive homebuyer education to prepare for long-term homeownership success. The home at 39 Bromley represents a foundation of stability, pride, and opportunity for the family in Ulster County.
With average home prices in Ulster County reaching $450,000, affordable homeownership has become increasingly out of reach for working families. Ulster County Habitat for Humanity addresses this gap by building quality, affordable homes and partnering with families who earn between 50-70% of the Area Median Income.

“The Mazareigo family’s journey shows what’s possible when a family commits to the partnership and our community comes together to support them,” said Carolyn Hurley, Family Services Coordinator.
