HARRISON – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team dropped its final match of the regular season as they now prep for Sarah Lawrence in the Skyline Conference Playoffs Opening Round.

Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball looked to close out the season with a win over top-seeded Manhattanville University. Brianna Guglielmo would get the scoring going for the Knights off an assist from Reese Mayer, but they would struggle to gain their footing offensively as the Valiants took a 10-2 lead. The Mount stayed aggressive, drawing fouls to not only get to the line but get themselves back into the game, shooting 16-19 from the charity stripe. The Knights would only find themselves trailing by 3 heading into the second quarter.

Threes by Keira Frias and Angelina Donato to start off the quarter with an 8-0 run, put the Mount up 25-20. The Knights led by as much as 6 before Manhattanville scored 9 unanswered points to retake the lead. Mount Saint Mary would make 6 three-pointers in the first half, shooting 48.1% from the field and 54.5% from deep. The Knights were on fire from three-point range, but the Valiants’ inside game could not be stopped, as Manhattanville led 41-36 at the half.

The Knights could not buy a bucket to start the third quarter, being held scoreless for nearly 5 minutes. They would trail by double-digits, but Angelina Donato and Reese Mayer would help the team fight back, as they would only trail 51-45 with 2:26 remaining in the quarter. 7 quick points to round out the third gave the Valiants a 58-46 lead with 10 minutes left.

The Mount struggled to score outside the free-throw line in the second half, while also not making a single three. They never seemed to get into a rhythm, as Manhattanville continued to hold its double-digit lead well into the quarter, leading by as much as 17 points. The Knights would ultimately lose to the Valiants 75-64 to close out the regular season.
