Marist Completes Series Sweep of Niagara

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist University softball team completed a three-game series sweep of Niagara with a 12-6 victory at Gartland Field on Sunday.

Marist erupted for seven runs in the first, as the Red Foxes sent 13 hitters to the plate and the first six reached safely.

Haley Ahr’s RBI single brought home Peyton Pusey.

Sienna Kunze’s bases-loaded walk forced home Annabelle Geiser.

Livia Wiltsie then belted a grand slam to give Marist a 6-0 lead six hitters in.

In her second plate appearance of the innings, Geiser’s bases-loaded walk forced home Lily Roumelis.

Niagara answered with four in the top of the second.

Pusey’s RBI single in the bottom of the second brought home Isabella Manory to give Marist an 8-4 lead.

Sophia Chemotti’s homer in the top of the third brought Niagara back to within three.

Manory’s RBI single brought home Ahr in the bottom of the third.

Kelli Plumaker’s pinch-hit homer cut Marist’s lead to 9-6 in the fifth.

Marist scored twice in the fifth. Annabelle Geiser came home following an error after a bunt single by Samantha Rogers. Ahr scored on Kunze’s sacrifice fly.

Marist closed out the scoring in the sixth. Pusey reached on a one-out triple and came home on Ava Hampton’s single.
