SUNY Orange Colts Drop Doubleheader at Anne Arundel

ARNOLD, MD – The SUNY Orange baseball team opened their season with two losses against Anne Arundel Community College on Saturday. The final scores were 21-12 and 3-2.

Game One – Anne Arundel (21) – SUNY Orange (12)
The Colts got off to a slow start, scoring just one run through the first two innings while giving up seven.

However, SUNY Orange came alive in the third inning, exploding for 10 runs. Sophomore Jonas

Kerzner drove in four runs in the inning. Freshman Garrett Srednicki added two RBIs of his own. Michael Fontaine added an RBI single to left, while AJ Grant, Alex Sanchez, Nikolas Marrero, and Jackson Atwell walked to bring in runs, extending the lead to 12-7.

The Colts tacked on another run in the fifth inning, thanks to an RBI from Srednicki. The Riverhawks answered back in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, shortening the Colts lead to 12-11. The sixth inning is where the Riverhawks flipped the script and took full control of the game adding 10 more runs to take a 21-12 lead. SUNY Orange was unable to answer back in the seventh inning.

Jacob Morino got the start and faced 16 batters allowing four earned runs and had one strike out. Anthony Borromeo made a relief appearance. Borromeo pitched for 2.0 innings allowing five earned runs. Thomas Grogan came in for a brief time and faced six batters, Julian Butcher faced eight batters. Connor Griffin faced one batter and had one strike out.

Game Two – SUNY Orange (2) – Anne Arundel (3)
The first inning was scoreless, but the Riverhawks were able to bring a run in in the second inning off of a throwing error. The Riverhawks scored again in the third inning off of an RBI by Camden Hodges.

The fourth inning went on to be scoreless, but the Riverhawks added one more run in the fifth inning from an RBI by Ryan Jones.

The Colts tried to rally in the seventh inning when Jackson Atwell brought in two runs off of a single to center field. SUNY Orange made a great effort, but it was just not enough as the game closed out with a 3-2 loss for the Colts.

Alex Sanchez got the start and faced 20 batters striking out four of them and allowing one earned run. Gavin Rounds made a relief appearance. Rounds faced seven batters and had one strike out.
