Cadets Honored During 74th Annual West Point Day

ALBANY – Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) and Chris Eachus (D-New Windsor) welcomed cadets and leadership from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Thursday, March 19, as they visited the Capitol to commemorate West Point Day, an annual tradition. The celebration gives legislators an opportunity to elevate the commitment and leadership of USMA cadets and those who came before them, while recognizing the great legacy of West Point.

Skoufis and Eachus introduced a resolution in their respective chambers to recognize March 19 as West Point Day, which was unanimously adopted. The resolutions will be displayed at West Point’s well-renowned Fourth of July event later this year.

“The men and women who have chosen to join West Point’s ranks in service to our nation are some of the finest citizens among us,” said Senator Skoufis. “It’s a privilege and honor to host them at the Capitol and share in this illustrious tradition. These cadets represent the bright future of American diplomacy and strength. As their representative in the State Senate, I will never lose sight of their commitment or their sacrifices.”

“As Assemblymember of the U.S Military Academy at West Point, this yearly event is one of my highest and most cherished honors” said Assemblymember Eachus. “The cadets that come before us each year represent the best and brightest: the next generation of leaders that will continue to defend our values at home and abroad. Their tenacity and spirit for our country is a shining example to us all, and a stark reminder of what it means to serve. I will always stand with them, our servicemembers, veterans, and their families here in Albany.”

West Point leadership in attendance included Colonel Daniel Stuewe (US Army Garrison), Colonel Christina A. Fanitzi, Sergeant First Class Raymond Barnett, Captain William Lutz, and Master Sergeant Donald Seidle. Major Brittany Wooten, Chaplain, provided the day’s invocation.
